Faten comes from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Since 2009 she has been pursuing a PhD in the systematics and phylogenetics of Arabian Senna, in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh.
In 2002 Faten graduated in Plant and Biological Sciences from King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah. She completed her MSc in Plant Taxonomy from King Abdul Aziz University in 2007. Her project investigated plant identification in Saudi Arabia using pollen and chemical markers.
Before joining CMEP, Faten worked as lecturer at King Abdul Aziz University for five years. In this role she organised lab teaching and administrated examinations for the biological sciences department.
